Brewfest 2012

Celebrate Your Heritage in 2012!

On Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, CulturFest unites music and dance talents, ethnic foods, authentic merchandise and activities for all ages to enrich its visitors with a Multi-Cultural experience. Join us at Wilson Elementary School (325 Meadow Lane, Owatonna, MN 55060) for this FREE event that is fun for everyone!

Superior performers from around the region gather to share their music and dance in celebration of their heritage. To enhance the day, the festival invites food vendors to sell their tantalizing ethnic cuisine from around the world.

If you are up for great entertainment and variety in food, this day long festival is a not-to-be missed event.

What's New:

Sculpt A Culture - Food Sculpture Contest
This new event will give people the chance to show off
their artistic talent while raising funds for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

At 8:30 a.m. on September 22, 2012 teams will select a country by random drawing. Teams then have 2 hours to sculpt a creation reflective of the country drawn. Attendees of the festival will vote for their favorite entry by putting coins/cash in the appropriate ballot box. Proceeds from the voting will go to the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. The winning entry will be announced prior to the Geography Bee. CASH PRIZES AWARDED FOR TOP 3 TEAMS!

All supplies will be provided for the sculpting. Teams may represent a business, a department within your place of employment, service organization, churches, clubs, families or maybe even just a group of friends.

geography bee

First Annual World Geography Bee will be held at Culturfest. The Geography Bee will begin at 2:30. The Bee will be facilitated by OJHS teacher Kent Buryska.

All children will be asked to answer the same question, and will record their answers on a white board. Participants will not be eliminated from the Geography Bee until they have provided three incorrect answers, and inaccurate spelling will not be counted as an incorrect response. Once 3 students remain, single incorrect answers will result in elimination. This process will continue until a winner is determined. Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third place, and a photo of the winner will be submitted to the Owatonna People's Press.

Children's Passport Program
Over 20 children's activity stations are set up for the PASSPORT PROGRAM. The children "take a trip around the world" while learning about various countries through hands-on activities and or crafts. The student's passport gets stamped once they have finished a countries activity.

The Workshop
The workshop – demonstration area will give people a chance to learn various crafts and ethnic skills from around the world.
